María Gabriela Vargas Murillo

Full Professor of French in the Escuela de Literatura y Ciencias del Lenguaje (ELCL) at the Universidad Nacional of Costa Rica. She got her B.A. in the Teaching of French at the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR) and her M.A. in French as a Foreign Language Didactics at the Université Stendhal in 2002 thanks to a French Government scholarship. She was item creator for the French standardized High School Test for the Costa Rican Ministry of Education (MEP) for ten years. She also work as a French instructor for primary and secondary, private and public schools in rural, marginal, and urban areas for over ten years. Since 2001 she works as a professor at ELCL and, in 2003, became a member of the extension and research team of the French and Education Program (PROFE), in which she has participated and presented at national and international seminars, gatherings, colloquia and conferences. She now leads the Interinstitutional Research and Cooperation for the Teaching of French Project (PRICOPI), the Research and Cooperation in Interinstitutional Committees related to the teaching and promotion of the French language, especially cooperation in expertise training with MEP. She has published several books and teaching materials for the teaching of French, and articles in international and national professional journals. She has also taught at UCR and has directed more than fifteen graduation papers. In 2017 she was awared the Palmas Académicas by the French Government. Since 2019 she has been part of the Improvement Management Committee for the Bachelor of Arts in the Teaching of French (BEF), and she currently leads the self-evaluation process of French programs and the PROFE, PRICOPI, and Difusión Permanentes para Profesores de Francés como Lengua Extranjera (REDES) projects.
